At Desolenator, we're on a mission to make clean water accessible to everyone. As a Piping & Layout Engineer, you'll play a critical role in developing and delivering our solar water purification and desalination systems.
The ideal candidate will have a robust background in steam piping systems, a strong grasp of stainless steel (SS) and CPVC piping standards, and hands-on experience with modularization and Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&ID). You'll be responsible for leading the Mechanical and Piping (M&P) design within multi-discipline engineering, EPCM or EPC projects for our solar desalination systems. The role involves providing support in project execution at the site, managing Bill of Quantities (BoQ) for piping, overseeing contractor activities, and leveraging piping software for design and layout.
Key Responsibilities:
- Piping Design and Layout:
- Leading the design and development of our plants, from preliminary engineering to detail designs, construction, commissioning, and final turnover to clients
- Managing any piping or mechanical changes or integration of new subsystems and identifying, formalizing, and notifying relevant parties of changes in the project.
- Develop and refine piping layouts, ensuring compliance with design specifications and industry standards.
- Design and analyze steam piping systems, focusing on performance, safety, and efficiency.
- Apply knowledge of SS and CPVC piping standards to ensure proper material selection and installation practices.
- Create a Quality Assurance plan for piping works which can be standardised for other plants
- Modularization and P&ID:
- Implement modularization strategies to streamline construction and maintenance processes.
- Create and interpret P&ID diagrams to guide the installation and integration of piping systems.
- Project Execution Support:
- Provide on-site support during project execution, ensuring that piping installations are carried out according to design specifications.
- Performing mechanical, functional, hydraulic, and thermodynamic testing of pumps in accordance with API, clients, and contractor requirements.
- Checking and approving any mechanical/rotary equipment deliverables provided by the engineering firm and providing support during the installation phase.
- Resolve any issues that arise during the construction and installation phases.
- Overseeing and interacting with maintenance contractors regarding maintenance repairs, repair plans, equipment installation, quality assurance requirements, etc.
- Assisting with equipment troubleshooting and root cause analysis (RCA).
- BoQ Preparation and Contractor Management:
- Prepare and review Bills of Quantities (BoQ) for piping components and installation services.
- Manage and oversee contractor activities to ensure compliance with project requirements and timelines.
- Piping Software Experience:
- Utilize piping design software to create detailed piping layouts and perform system analyses.
- Familiarity with software such as AutoCAD, CAESAR II, or similar is essential.
- Mechanical Engineering Fundamentals:
- Apply basic principles of mechanical engineering & thermodynamics to support piping system design and troubleshooting.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in piping and layout engineering, with specific experience in steam piping systems.
- Strong understanding of SS and CPVC piping standards, modularization techniques, Industrial piping layouts and P&ID.
- Proficiency in piping design software (e.g., AutoCAD, CAESAR II).
- Experience in the production of 2-D & 2-D designs &layouts.
- Solid knowledge in the design and installation of piping networks.
- Solid understanding of mechanical engineering principles.
- Excellent problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
- Strong English communication and interpersonal skills for effective contractor management and teamwork.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Certification in piping design or related field.
- Experience with large-scale industrial or commercial projects.
- Familiarity with industry codes and standards (e.g., ASME, ANSI).
- Working experience obtained with Powerplants or water utilities, ideally thermal desalination experience
